Altman came out as gay in high school. He dated Loopt co-founder Nick Sivo for nine years before the business was acquired in 2012.
OpenAI was founded in 2015 by Altman, Greg Brockman, Elon Musk, Jessica Livingston, and Peter Thiel, among others. By 2020, Sam Altman had left Y Combinator to become CEO of OpenAI full-time.
