These regulations do not apply to people who are already registered as pharmacists in the state.

The DPEE ensures that candidates have undergone pharmacy education. They must also have completed a practical training program. This is in the Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm) course. The course must be from an institution approved by the Pharmacy Council of India.

After passing the DPEE, a candidate can register as a pharmacist. They must also meet the conditions in section 32(2) of the Pharmacy Act, 1948.

Applications for registration must be sent to the Registrar of the State Pharmacy Council. They must include the prescribed fee and documents. These are mentioned in section 46(2)(g) of the Act.

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) conducts the DPEE. They do this as per the Diploma in Pharmacy Exit Examination Regulations, 2022. NBEMS only conducts the exam, publishes the results, and sends them to the Pharmacy Council of India and all State Pharmacy Councils.
